3.3 Crossings – Ford Crossings (2.0)

Summary

This guide covers fords which are generally used on low volume roads to cross broad, shallow rivers and where alternative river crossings are not feasible. This makes it easy for the road grade to be brought down to the level of the river bed. Fords can be natural river beds or can have a concrete pad to assist with vehicle traction and to reduce sedimentation from vehicle passes.
